Battle of the Bands 2012
9th February 2012For the fifth year running, St Anselms returned to the Cavern Club. Brimful with talent, high expectations and a youthful grunge cool, the hopefuls took to the stage. Again the standard of musicianship was higher than ever before, and the evening became a wonderful celebration of rock’n’roll, with the appropriately shiny guitars, floppy hairstyles and era-specific fashion. This year the bands had been asked to play one song of their own, one Beatles cover and one other song. Read More

Arkwright scholarship
6th February 2012Huw Thomas, Matthew Westby, Connor Blanshard and Alex St John in Year 11 are hoping for success after completing the first two stages of the Arkwright scholarship. The four students are hoping to follow in the success of Alex Wilson and Alex Jackson. Alex Wilson secured his place at Oxford to study Engineering and Alex Jackson is going to attend an engineering themed workshop in the summer for a week. Read More

Careers Convention 2011
23rd January 2012At the recent Careers Convention there was a wide selection of careers available. We visited an apprenticeship provider (TTE Engineering) and the RAF. We asked several questions ranging from salaries to promotion prospects and received lots of information. TTE provides apprenticeships sponsored by local industry, for example Shell and Tate & Lyle. We learnt that Shell alone spends £1,000,000 on new apprenticeships per year. Read More

Classroom Medics workshop
17th January 2012St Anselm’s College hosted the first ever Classroom Medics workshop on the Wirral. A Wolverhampton based educational company - Classroom Medics ventured over to Merseyside to promote their services. Alison Ravenscroft from St Anselm’s College was approached by Michelle Dow from Mersey Stem to host the free advertising event and help organise links with other schools. The workshops were demonstrating a wide range of medical equipment. Read More

Football success
12th January 2012Daniel McLoughlin of Year 11 is the first boy for over 20 years from St Anselm’s to be selected by Merseyside County Schools Football Association to represent them at Under 16s level. Daniel has made an excellent start with the squad featuring in every game so far and has assisted them in reaching the quarter finals of the National Cup competition. Well done and good luck!
