1st XV finish week on a high after Vase exit

The 1st XV had started the season on excellent form scoring over 200 points in their four match winning streak. However, this run came to an end after losing to a strong Wirral side in the Nat West Vase 37-18.

Saints started brightly and had numerous opportunities to make pressure pay off but squandered a hat full of chances inside the Home side's 22. Wirral always looked dangerous moving the ball and England centre and new recruit Roebuck had the game's best player.  Although Ben Dufton Kelly scored an excellent try from full back it was a first half of rued opportunities and as always Wirral make you pay. The boys can take great credit from the fact it was a brave and physical performance but ultimately the better side on the day won.

Saturday was a chance to gain immediate reprieve playing our other local rivals Birkenhead and the boys were in no mood to feel sorry for themselves!  We ran out deserved 40-17 winners and it was a great team performance but individual highlights included another length of the field effort by Dufton-Kelly and a sensational score from skipper Nolan.

Five wins out of six is an excellent start but games come thick and fast and a Cheshire Cup game at Cheadle awaits this Wednesday.
