English Schools Cup Regional Final

On Saturday 11th November, the St Anselm's Junior and Intermediate English Schools Cross Country squads travelled to Casterton in the Lake District to compete in the Regional Final of the English Schools Cup. Both teams had strong chances of gaining selection for the National Final but faced stiff competition from schools across the North West region.

The Junior Boys, with four Year 7 pupils in the squad, ran exceptionally well. Josh Parsley (Year 7) came 5th with Joshua Longman (Year 8) 11th, James Price (Year 7) 16th and Eden Jones (Year 7) in 18th place. These four scores enabled the Junior team to come 2nd and gain qualification to the National Final. These boys were supported by Harry Kaye (Year 8) in 24th place and George Godwin (Year 7) in 36th place. Travelling reserves Harry Hollis and Harry White provided outstanding support and all 8 boys should be so proud of their efforts and achievements.

The Intermediate Boys had a tough race but managed to match the Junior Boys achievements by coming in 2nd place also. Louis Johnston and Finan Johnston (both Year 10) came 3rd and 5th respectively, with Zach Russell (Year 9) 16th and Ewan McCready (Year 10) in 19th. Ryan Hayes (Year 9) came 20th with Paul Toner (Year 10) in 28th position. Again, the travelling reserves, Matthew Edwards, Joe Turnbull and Joshua Hale provided excellent support to get the boys around the course.

This success means that both age groups have qualified for the National Final in Kent on the 25th November. All students involved must be commended for their effort and attitude as we now prepare for further success at the National Final in two weeks time.
