U13 Rugby vs Calday

On Saturday long standing rivalries were renewed between Calday and St Anselm’s. A talented Calday team benefitted from early possession and some very hard running from their fullback and right wing, scoring three quick tries. At half time things looked a bit bleak, with the score Calday 35 – St Anselm’s 15. However the U13 squad rallied, and scored with some great driving rugby straight from the kick off. What followed was 15 minutes of relentless St Anselm’s pressure, resulting in a further 3 tries and putting us level on points. Then up stepped James Corcoran, to side step and finish a wonderful hat trick following some fantastic work from the forwards and flowing hands from the backs. Unfortunately all was not meant to be as Calday’s talented fullback, stole a ball on the halfway line and raced in to level the scores.

Special mentions must be made to the individual skill of Cathal Lynch, the finishing of James Corcoran and Jackson Roy, the work rate of James McNamara, Godwins Braimoh, Dylan Gray and the rest of the forwards; as well as the leadership of Jack McCabe and the simply devastating running of Sean Hutson. All of this coupled with the game changing performance put in by Jude Beck-Smears, resulted in a draw that honestly felt like a win. It was a simply brilliant game of rugby, all the boys involved wore the shirt with pride and showed what it truly means to be an Anselmian.

Mr J. Finch
U13 Rugby Coach

I had the pleasure of watching this tremendous performance from the U13 Rugby team on Saturday. The atmosphere built steadily on the side of the pitch as the game progressed, with parents and the reserves watching with great anticipation. The team ought to be proud of their efforts during the game and fought back until the very end. I hope this powerful performance will continue in the coming weeks. Well done, boys!
