King Henry VIII Relay Race

King Henry VIII Relay Race

On Wednesday 7th February we competed in the annual King Henry Relay Race in Coventry. With a strong team we had high hopes of another podium placed finish after coming 2nd overall last year.

Joe Wigfield put the team in a tremendous position, finishing a 2 mile course in 11.29, the 7th best overall individual position. Strong runs followed by Jacob Brophy who got the team into 2nd place and also by Arran Kearney. Finan Johnston, a Year 10 performing in a Senior race, performed valiantly, consolidating 3rd place and handing over to Tom Spence who achieved the team's 2nd quickest time in 12.17. Martin Hurst was our last leg runner and in a tense finale, he brought the team home in 4th position. The 'B' team came in a noble 28th position.

Although the boys, Dr Cooper and I are bitterly disappointed by missing out on a top 3 finish, our overall time this year was almost 30 seconds quicker than our time last year. So there are obvious signs of improvement and we must continue to develop as we push again for next season.

My thanks must go to the parents and supporters of the College who attended the race yesterday.

Well done to all of the boys.

Mr S. Simpson
