Cricket is a key feature of our summer sports programme. The students are very enthusiastic towards the sport. It is taught in PE and Games in KS3 as a compulsory topic. In KS4 boys can opt for Cricket coaching in Games sessions. We have an excellent square at the Ridings, 4 excellent indoor nets and a bowling machine onsite. We are currently refurbishing the Cricket nets at the Games field.
We play established Cricket schools such as Birkenhead, MTS Crosby, Kings Chester and other local peer schools. The teams play 6-10 games a season depending on the weather. We enter the Cheshire Cup at all ages and our teams are competitive. We aim for students to improve their standard whatever their starting point. We are lucky that Cheshire coaches Keith Beggs and Chris Edwards regularly lead sessions as part of a grant from the Cheshire CB. We intend to run a Cricket Academy in the 2013/14 academic year through the winter.
We have current Cheshire players In Harry Meehan (Year 9) and Liam Sundve (Year 12) other pupils play in the West Cheshire representatives sides. The Year 8 side (2013 season) have reached the Cheshire Cup final but unfortunately they have been unable to play the final at the time of writing due other teams not playing their semi final in the summer term!
