Battle of the Bands

For four years, students have been coming to the Cavern Club in Liverpool to take part in the St Anselm’s College Battle of the Bands final. On a cold Sunday evening in February, seven bands arrived in the afternoon and set up their kit.

The Cavern has recently improved their main stage with fine Blackstar gear, and good musicianship is vital. Many of our bands have experience of playing gigs and the standard was very high.

This year, the winners were 3rd – From The Eclipse, 2nd – Beat Surrender and 1st – Red Letters  with Chris Hardman (rhythm and vocals), Liam Murray (lead), Luke Smith (bass) and James Burns (drums). And although any of the seven acts could have won, and all excelled in different ways, Red Letters ticked all the boxes: þ skilled musicianship, þ tight ensemble playing, þ catchy tunes, þ crowd-pleasing performance, and þ just seriously good. We would like to thank all the performers for their contributions and for producing music from so many different genres and to such a high standard, and we look forward to Feb 2012 for the next battle.
