Welcome to the St. Anselm’s College website.
St. Anselm’s College is the Roman Catholic Grammar School for Boys in Wirral. We are a high performing Academy which enables us to focus upon our strategic priorities whilst retaining our Catholic ethos and grammar school identity.
Our vision is to educate a generation of confident Catholic, Christian leaders equipped with the attributes and qualifications required to represent our values in modern society and prepared for rewarding and productive lives. In May 2008 the inspectors from the Diocese of Shrewsbury described St. Anselm’s as “an outstanding Catholic College which focuses on the academic and pastoral care of all students and significantly enhances their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.” Our students are active in supporting the Christian Brothers’ Mission in Sierra Leone, West Africa and our 6th Form Immersion group visited our twin school, St. Francis, Makeni, in 2013 and a new group will return there in February 2014. Students regularly support local adults with learning difficulties in the Friday Club and assist at Homeless Missions and in Special Schools.
At St. Anselm’s we seek to educate the whole person so we provide excellent opportunities in sport, music, the arts, technology and leadership development, including in the 6th Form. The new 6th Form Centre, located in “Outwood”, the former Christian Brothers’ house adjacent to the College site, opened in 2013. This wonderful building has been lovingly restored, making the most of a wealth of original architectural features, whilst at the same time converting it for use as a place for education in the 21st century, complete with state of the art technology.
We have always had a strong sporting tradition. Old boys Austin Healey, Simon Mason and Ben Johnston are full rugby internationals and our Cross Country Teams are past national champions. We are reigning Northern Schools champions and our Year 8 Cricket team will contest the Cheshire Schools Cup final in early September. Our Senior Rugby squad tours South Africa next summer and College musicians regularly perform locally and abroad. Our Year 8 robot building team returned from last year's Robocup World Final competition in Mexico with prizes in two categories.
