Parents

Welcome to the St. Anselm’s College website.

St. Anselm’s College is the Roman Catholic Grammar School for Boys in Wirral. We are a High Performing Academy which enables us to focus upon our strategic priorities whilst retaining our Catholic ethos and grammar school identity.

In 2008 Ofsted reported that “this is an outstanding school in which students achieve exceptionally well and reach very high standards. Parents, students and staff refer to the school as a “family” and this is reflected in all aspects of school life.” Students achieve an average 10 grades A*-C at GCSE and 50% grades A*-B and 100% A-E at A level with 95% of Year 13 Leavers progressing to university.

Our vision is to educate a generation of confident Catholic, Christian leaders equipped with the attributes and qualifications required to represent our values in modern society and prepared for rewarding and productive lives. In May 2008 the inspectors from the Diocese of Shrewsbury described St. Anselm’s as “an outstanding Catholic College which focuses on the academic and pastoral care of all students and significantly enhances their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.” Our students are active in supporting the Christian Brothers’ Mission in Sierra Leone, West Africa and our 6th Form Immersion group visited our twin school, St. Francis, Makeni, there in February 2011.

At St. Anselm’s we seek to educate the whole person so we provide excellent opportunities in sport, music, the arts, technology and leadership development, including in the 6th Form. The new 6th Form Block project will be completed in 2012, located in “Outwood”, the former Christian Brothers’ house adjacent to the College site.

We have always had a strong sporting tradition. Old boys Austin Healey, Simon Mason and Ben Johnston are full rugby internationals and our Cross Country Teams have twice been national champions during the past 3 seasons. Our Senior Rugby squad toured Canada this summer and College musicians regularly perform locally and abroad. Our Year 8 robot building team have recently returned from this year's Robocup World Final competition in Mexico where they were very successsful. The team came 1st in the Superteam tournament and 3rd for the presentations. This is a remarkable success and the College is tremendously proud of their achievements.
