Annual Edmund Rice Week!

For the 3rd consecutive year we celebrated a themed week at the College, based around the Eight Essentials of a Christian Brothers education, the principles that underpin an Edmund Rice Education. This year’s theme is “Freedom & Education for Justice”. Once again, we delivered a packed programme of events open to all students in Years 7-12 including special assemblies, presentations, workshops, simulations and cooking sessions. The themes that have been explored included Human Rights, Peace & Reconciliation, Asylum and Refugee status, Fair Trade and Trade Justice, World Poverty and Homelessness. Sessions and workshops were led by staff, visitors including Fr. Patrick Shanahan, founder of Street Child Africa, Mrs. Maria Castaneda, a political refugee from persecution in South America, and Mrs. Gloria Pollock from Amnesty International, and by students.

Mr. Tom Murray, Edmund Rice Youth Development Worker addressed a variety of year groups about the progress of education for justice in Sierra Leone, where the Christian Brothers have a flourishing mission.

One of the highlights of the week was the visit of “The Mighty Zulu Nation” dance troupe from Durban in South Africa, who lead dance, art and music workshops before performing with their Anselmian converts on Tuesday afternoon, to an audience of students and parents.

Street Child Africa Sponsored Walk!

Staff and students from the College joined the crowds on the 15-mile Wirral Coastal Walk on Sunday 24th May. Our party, including boys from Years 10-13 and the Headmaster and Miss Lacey, our Chaplain, walked in support of Street Child Africa, one of our official charities. Happily we were blessed with fine weather and completed the walk in good spirits, although there were universal reports of sore feet! The group hopes to raise £1000 in sponsorship, which will be presented to Mr. Chris Doran from Street Child Africa, a fellow walker, at Assembly in July. Many other Anselmians walked in support of a variety of worthy causes.
