A Level Results 2007
Students at St.Anselm’s College, Birkenhead, are celebrating their A Level results this week after achieving a College record! 48% of all entries gained the top grades (A&B) with an exceptional 99.6% pass rate (grades A-E). The average UCAS points score of 370 per student equals the best ever achieved at the College, comfortably ahead of the national average. All 83 students achieved 3 or more A level passes.
There were many outstanding individual performances with 10% of candidates achieving 3 A grades or better. Marc North, from Bebington, achieved 5 grade As, plus an AS grade A, and is off to read Natural Sciences at Durham University. His friend Jonathan Tottle, also from Bebington, will join him to read Physics whilst Chris Ogden from Bromborough will read Philosophy at Nottingham University, both having achieved 4 A grades.
Headmaster Simon Duggan declared that he and his staff were delighted by the students’ success. “This was one of the best cohorts of recent years, who blossomed in our 6th Form and were impressive role models for younger students and excellent ambassadors for the College. These young men have embraced the all-round Christian education on offer at the College and depart well-equipped for life in the 21st Century.”
GCSE Results 2007
Year 11 students at St.Anselm’s College are celebrating the best GCSE results in the College’s long history. 96% of them gained 5 or more of the highest grades, A*-C, with 89% gaining 5 or more including English and Maths, the new national benchmark. 29% of students gained 5+ grades A*&A, and 29% of all entries were graded at A* or A. The average points score of 466 per student was also a College record!
There were some impressive individual performances, including exceptional achievements by 7 students. Top of the year was James Hartley, from Willaston, who earned 9 A* grades, closely followed by his near-neighbour Peter Burke with 8A*s. Jamie Davies from Beechwood and Sam Veevers from Wallasey achieved 7A*s and other students who excelled were Tim Hurst, from Raby, Tom Mountford, from Upton, Chris Vernon, from Wallasey with 6 A*s, each accompanied by a string of A grades, and David Quinn, from Upton, 5A*s & 5As. All these students are continuing their studies in the College 6th Form which will now have its largest-ever roll of 220 students.
The value-added results, based on performance against prior attainment, placed us in the top 11% of schools nationally for progress from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4, an outstanding achievement!
Headmaster Simon Duggan was delighted by the results, which he attributed to the commitment and dedication of boys and staff, and the support of parents. He commented “ It is wonderful to see these excellent students achieve deserved success. This has been an outstanding Year 11 and these boys have the potential to advance to the best universities in the country. I know that I speak for my colleagues when I say that it has been a pleasure to teach them and we anticipate continued success during the next 2 years.
