St. Anselm's has a long tradition of excellence in sport. Students are offered a range of activities, well beyond the requirements for the National Curriculum. Activities include Aikido, athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, cross country, gymnastics, hockey, rugby and tennis. Throughout this programme, we endeavour to develop the physical, moral, cultural and spiritual well-being of each student through his participation in sport.
We are proud of the high standards achieved, particularly in athletics, cross country and rugby. Our teams consistently reach the finals of national competitions in both athletics and cross country and the rugby teams compete successfully against some of the best schools in the country. Many boys progress to gain representative honours, representing their county at regional and national level in these sports.
There are three current rugby internationals and, in 1998, the U17 Cross Country team represented England in the World Schools' Cross Country Championships in Latvia. In 1999 the Intermediate Team won the prestigious English Schools' Cup. The department organises a training weekend in the Lake District, an annual ski trip to Austria or Switzerland, senior rugby tours to Canada or South Africa and an adventure holiday in France.
More information about St. Anselm's Rugby Fixtures and results can be found here, and Cross Country Fixtures, here.
