Community

St Anselm’s College, as a Christian Brother School, has always had strong links with the local and wider community. The Friday Club, run by sixth form students from both St Anselm’s and Upton Hall, serves as a drop in centre for adults from the local community with learning difficulties. Our Technology College status has enabled us to extend the range of activities that we provide for the community. We, along side Upton Hall, were recently awarded lead practitioner status in community links for the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.

Primary School links.

We have provided a range of expertise and equipment to our partner primary schools helping to raise standards and interest in the specialist subjects.
St Paul’s Primary School. St Paul’s primary school is located in the Beechwood Estate. We have been working with teachers at the school to produce materials for the interactive whiteboard to help pupils in their learning across the Foundation Curriculum (ages 4 and 5).
Holy Cross Primary School and Cole Street primary schools. We have provided pupils in Year 5 with Science lessons using laptops and electronic sensors. For example, pupils have been measuring producing and interpreting graphs of their heart rates before and after exercise.

We have also provided pupils in Year 6 with Mathematics lessons using laptops and electronic voting devices and the interactive whiteboard to enable pupils to learn Mathematical skills in relation to visual stimulus and participation.
Cole Street Primary School and Christchurch primary schools. We have provided pupils in Years 5 and 6 with the opportunity to extend their design and making skills through producing electronic badges and mechanical hands.

Secondary School links.

We have been working with Upton Hall School and Woodchurch High School to provide year 10 with booster Saturday workshop sessions on genetics and the future of Science.
We have been working with Upton Hall School and Ridgeway High School in training mentors to deliver enterprise workshops to Year 6 pupils from Redcourt, St Paul’s and Townsfield schools.

The wider community.

We are proud to offer support for the wider community. This includes adult evening classes and seminars for local businesses.
We work closely with the Wirral Life Long Learning Service in providing a range of opportunities for adult learning classes that relate to our specialist status in Technology and Languages. We do so in collaboration with other schools on the Wirral to ensure that we offer both continuity and progression. Classes include the European Computer Driving License, Digital photography and Language classes in Arabic, Polish Portuguese, French, Spanish and Italian. French, Spanish and Italian are offered at AS Level.
We provide a range of seminars for local businesses based on local need in collaboration with the Wirral Chamber of Commerce and the Wirral Investment Network. These have included making your business an e-business, project management, and the implications of the Chinese and Polish economies on business opportunities on the Wirral.
