College Rugby starts with Victories
The Rugby season started in earnest on Saturday and it was a successful day with St Anselm's winning 4 out of the 5 fixtures versus Hutton Grammar School. There was a great turn out too for the Year 7 training session taken by Mr Finch and Mr Cubbin.
The 1st XV had the tough task of playing away but started with a bang scoring three converted tries in the opening ten minutes. Simpson, Roscoe and Allkins all went over for excellent tries with Hughes converting from difficult angles.
The 2nd half was much tougher and Hutton were good value for their try. There were further tries for Ben Gate and newcomer James Colquitt. He was one of four Year 11 debutants who all excelled in a tough match played in difficult conditions and the final score was 33-12.
The Year 8 A&B teams both won and it seems the extra summer  training organised by Mr Rumbsy and Neil Parsley is already bearing fruition.
The Year 9 side won a close game 12-5 while  the Year 10s lost and will be hoping for a number of injured players to return over the next few weeks.
In the summer the Senior Rugby players had a very successful Rugby tour to Canada and the USA.  There were matches played in Toronto, London, Rochester and Saratoga.  All matches were won convincingly and the team spirit and experiences had by all were superb.
The tour finished on a high with four days of sightseeing in Boston.  Mike Spreag was the player and coaches unanimous player of the tour and Harry Benjamin was excellent following a frustrating season with injury.
