St Anselm's College immersion to support Schools in Makeni, Sierra Leone.

Help raise £2500 for St Anselm's College immersion to support Schools in Makeni, Sierra Leone

St Anselm's College has traditionally had strong links with West Africa following the death of former Headmaster Brother Kerrigan, who was shot dead in Sierra Leone by rebel forces in 1995. Money raised in recent years has been used to fund tremendously worthwhile projects in Makeni. During the horrors of the Ebola virus money raised paid for essential equipment, helping to support the local Loreto Clinic Hospital. During the last two years Saint Anselm's College was able to resume the annual Sixth Form immersion trip following the end of the Ebola crisis. The group experienced how the College’s work during this time proved so important in the country.

We have established particularly strong ties with St Francis School Makeni and also St. Joseph’s School for the hearing impaired. In West Africa children with disabilities are more likely to experience a greater risk of violence and deprivation. Money raised helps support the immersion, purchase teaching resources, develop facilities and support teachers to help create opportunities and future independence for young children in Sierra Leone.
