Santander Trip - 2018

Monday 1st October, 40 students from Y10-13 met at Manchester airport for our departure. A smooth journey to Bilbao and then a short transfer to the Hotel Chiqui in Santander. All rooms had beautiful sea views.

Our first day saw us visiting the Soplao caves by train, and then on to the beautiful towns of Comillas and Santillana del Mar.

Our second day started with a visit to Colegio Castroverde in Santander. Our students attended morning lessons in small groups and then joined the students during their break time. The Bachilleratos students (Sixth Formers) then took us on a walking tour of Santander stopping at points of interest such as the Botín centre, the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Santander and La Duna which offered beautiful views over the Bay of Santander.

The sunshine meant that our afternoons could be spent on the beach, but only after the obligatory stop at the local supermercado. Our evening meals were enjoyed in the very hospitable Casa del Revert.

On our final day we made a return visit to Castroverde, students enjoyed more lessons and getting to know the students of Castroverde. Our students were then treated to a buffet organised by the Castroverde Bachilleratos students. We then said our goodbyes and made our way back to the hotel ready for our afternoon in Bilbao before our return journey to Manchester.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say muchas gracias to all the parents that supported and encouraged their sons to take part. Hopefully they have made memories that they will be able to look back on and smile about in years to come! Gracias to the boys for their great behaviour, for listening, for asking questions and not moaning (too much) about all the walking!
