Royal Occasion for the Wilfred Owen Choir!

The Wilfred Owen Choir, drawn form 5 local secondary schools, maintained its tradition of performing in public this year by singing in front of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on Monday 14th January. The royal couple visited Birkenhead to dedicate the statue in Hamilton Square honouring the 88 former pupils of Birkenhead Institute, including War Poet Wilfred Owen, killed during the First World War.

The Choir was established by Director of Music Chris Watson, and our former teacher Matt Lammin (Birkenhead High School), at the request of our local MP The Rt. Hon. Frank Field, to perform at events held to mark the Centenary of the Armistice, which ended the war, and the death of Wilfred Owen in November 1918. 25 students from the College sang at the royal event and were thrilled to receive a round of applause from Prince Harry!
