Birkenhead's Catenian Public Speaking Competition 2019

On Friday evening, two Year 12s competed in the local Catenian Public Speaking Competition. James Chindripu and Devan Jones (who had arrived straight from a three day retreat in Derbyshire) gave an excellent account of themselves with their respective topics: "Luck does not exist" and "Who are you?". They were competing against six other strong candidates fielded by Upton, St Mary's and SJP, all of whom spoke with passion and conviction.

The winner was a student from Upton who spoke about her love of reading. The convivial evening at Prenton Golf Club was enjoyed by students, their accompanying teachers, families and friends thanks to the hard work of the Catenian members, especially Mr Eddie Byrnes.

We look forward to the next stage, the March regional competition in St Helens where one of our students will compete against more R.C. schools and Colleges from Merseyside, the Wirral and North Wales.
