English Schools Success

On Saturday 13th November, the St Anselm's College Cross-Country squads took part in the Regional Round for the English School's Cup, held at Trafford AC.

We had tremendous success with all three teams winning their respective races and therefore qualifying for the National Final, which takes place in Newquay on Saturday 4th December.

In the Junior race, Michael Phelan led the team home in 3rd place, an impressive performance from a Year 7 in a Year 8 race! He was ably supported by Malachi Harty (Year 7), Jac Chapman, Matthew Merriman, George Goulding and Kyle Shelley (all Year 8).

The Intermediate squad competed extremely well and packed superbly. Oberon Kearney (Year 9) ran a great race, coming 4th, with Jack Talbot, Alfie Forsyth Wisbey, Sebastian Thorpe, Lewis Greenhalgh (all Year 10) and Samuel Clarke (Year 9) close behind supporting him.

Finally, the Senior squad started off proceedings impressively, Joshua Hale (Year 13) led the team home in 4th, with Ethan Brady Jones (Year 12) close behind. Impressive performances from Joshua Longman (Year 12) and Harry Ross Hughes (Year 13) completed a clean sweep of wins. Tom Roberts and Brendan Grealis (both Year 12) ran brilliant races to displace other school's counters.

The boys deserve tremendous praise for going to the National Final as the best ranked school in the North West of England and we now focus our attention to the final on the 4th December. Thank you also to Mr and Mrs Green for their invaluable help and to all the parents who came to support the boys.
