Headmaster's Message - 19th November 2021

Dear parents,

I hope that you and your families have had a good week. We currently have 8 boys absent owing to Covid but the local rate remains high so we must all remain vigilant. Our attendance dropped to 92% today and it appears that there are some unpleasant viruses circulating so our Covid precautions remain essential for good health and attendance.

We held our Year 11 6th Form Open Evening remotely on Tuesday and this was well attended. There will be further onsite transition events in the New Year.

This week we have Year 7 Parents Evening on Thursday 25th November which will be conducted remotely on School Cloud. Details of how to make your appointments are being sent to you.

Year 13 Mock Exams begin on Thursday 25th November. These provide an excellent opportunity for students to confirm their progress and must be taken seriously but kept in context. In the unlikely event of A level exams being cancelled again the evidence generated by mock exams would contribute towards Teacher Assessed Grades. I must emphasise that the DfE is determined that exams will be sat next summer. Students ought not to be over-anxious about these mock exams as there are further ones in March. They can only do their best!

On Thursday we received a visit from senior staff from Vauxhall factory in Ellesmere Port. They brought with them a donation of 35 reconditioned computers from their parent company Stelantis. We are very grateful to them for their generosity and look forward to enhancing our links with this important local business.

Our sportsmen enjoyed impressive success last weekend. All 3 of our Cross-Country Teams qualified as regional champions for the English Schools Cup Final in Newquay(!) on 4th December, where our Intermediate Team won the competition in 2009. Our Rugby teams won 7 of 9 matches against renowned adversaries Merchant Taylor's, Crosby, drawing 1 with big wins for the Under-12, Under-14, and 2nd XVs. We hope for similar success against Sandbach HS tomorrow.

I wish you an enjoyable and relaxing weekend.
Kind regards,
Simon Duggan
