Headmaster's Message - 7th January 2022

Dear parents,

We are now back in the swing of things despite the challenges caused by the Omicron Covid virus and seasonal illness and the Easter Term has begun as well as can be expected!

As you are probably aware, the Wirral Covid rate was well above 2,000 cases per 100,000 people last week so we must maintain our vigilance, to keep the College open for your sons. LFD testing this week identified 10 boys with Covid who were asymptomatic. It is now essential that boys take LFD tests twice weekly at home and when they, or a family member, have 1 of the 3 main symptoms. Student attendance has been 90% this week, as before Christmas.

The guidance on testing and self- isolation is changing from 11th January. Boys who have tested positive will be required to self-isolate but will not need to take a confirmatory PCR test. From days 6 & 7 of their self-isolation they should take LFD tests. Once they have received 2 negative results 24 hours apart, they are no longer required to complete 10 days of isolation and can return to school, if they no longer have symptoms. Boys who are close contacts of someone who has tested positive should take a LFD test for 7 days and continue to attend school as long as each result is negative. Even someone who has tested positive for Covid within the past 90 days should now take LFD tests at home once they have completed their isolation period.

The Year 11 Mock Exam Results and Certificates evening on Thursday will be held online on Mocrosoft Teams, from 6pm, as per Mr Dowse's letter to you this week. We will also provide some information about 6th Form options and admissions.

Rugby fixtures begin again tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, the senior fixtures for the 1st & 2nd XVs have been postponed as our pitches are not playable. The Year 8, 9 & 10 matches scheduled away from home will proceed at Port Sunlight RFC, Leverhulme Playing Fields in Bromborough, at 10am. The Year 7 A & B team matches will also be played there, kick off 9am and the Year 8 B team match will kick off at 9.15am. Boys should arrive in kit. Mrs Madden has sent you these details. Please check your messages and social media in case bad weather causes the postponement of these fixtures. Our 1st XV pitch was probably the victim of the College Old Bys Reunion fixture played on 28th December before a large crowd in atrocious conditions. It was a terrific game, played in the right spirit, and the event was very enjoyable. We plan to repeat it!

I would like to finish by congratulating Anselmians RFC on being awarded the accolade of English Club of the Year 2021. This is a fantastic, and well-deserved achievement, which I take particular pride in as a past President of this wonderful club.

I wish you and your family a relaxing and healthy weekend as we strive to return to normality.

Best wishes,
Simon Duggan
