Senior Hockey Update

The First XI lost in the Second Round of the Tier 2 National Cup to an extremely strong Altrincham Grammar team on Wednesday. The boys competed in every area of the pitch and after losing a brave Matthew S to a knee injury after 30 minutes found themselves 1 - 0 down. With half time only seconds away, Obi C played a fantastic arial ball into the back post were Tom T took the ball on the volley to score an extremely well taken goal. Only for it to be disallowed by the umpire for apparent dangerous play. Anselms had the majority of the chances in the second half and if it not for a couple of unbelievable saves from their goalkeeper we would have been level.

With it being a cup match we had to commit men forward and ended up conceding 2 late goals. This was not from a lack of defending but simply due to the number of defenders that we left back. Every single player represented the College with their performance and all should be proud. We now go into the Plate and wait to see who we play.

The Second XI secured a strong result against Calday's Second XI in a game were we had to weather a lot of possession and chances. The final score was 1-1 and after going 1-0 down Jack P assisted Luke C to score a well taken counter attacking goal. Man of the match was awarded to goalkeeper Joe A who made numerous game saving saves. Again the lads represented the College with their performance.

Well Done to all that played on Wednesday, both the First and Second Xi play Merchant Taylors next week.

Thanks

Mr Edwards
