College Cross-Country squads compete for Merseyside

On Saturday 16th November, we had representatives from our College Cross-Country squads competing for Merseyside at the Inter-Counties Dave Sunderland Cross Country fixture. The boys gave a very good account of themselves on a particularly gruelling, Lilleshall course.

In Year 7, Oberon Kearney continued to establish himself as one of the top runners in his age group nationally, as he finished in 2nd place; a wonderful achievement. Tom Gilchrist also contributed to the Merseyside team coming 2nd in the overall team placings. In Year 8, Jack Talbot and Seb Thorpe ran in a Year 9 competition and more than held their own, with Jack coming in 33rd position. Both of these students continued their fine form in the build up to the National Final on 7th December.

In the Year 10 & 11 race, we had 4 runners inside the top 30 positions out of a field of around 120. Zach Russell finished in 16th position and he was closely followed by Joshua Hale, Harry Ross Hughes and Ryan Hayes. All four runners contributed significantly towards Merseyside winning the overall race against a highly competitive field.

Congratulations to the runners and also to the parents, who supported all the athletes throughout the day.
