1st team debut of former pupil

The College proudly celebrated the 1st team debut of former pupil Joe Hardy for Liverpool FC against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup on Tuesday night.

Joe attended the College from 2010-2013 before moving to Manchester City academy. He was recently a professional footballer at Brentford before getting a dream move to Anfield. He had been successfully representing the Liverpool FC Under 23s and then made his debut in Tuesday night's victory.

Joe was a hugely talented sportsman and more importantly had an incredible attitude and determination to win and be the best in every sport he played!

He was an outstanding basketball player and athlete and he excelled at every College sport.  My overriding memory of Joe was him racing the length of the field in the last play of the game to win us the Birkenhead Sevens. This was against local rivals Wirral Grammar and he added a nice swan dive in to seal his achievement!

I was privileged to play rugby alongside Austin Healey at St Anselm's College but I would have no hesitation in saying Joe was the most talented young sportsman I have ever seen in the College's illustrious sporting history.

We all wish him every success in the future and hope this is only the start of his journey for the World Champions!

Well done
