Headmaster's Message 10th July 2020

Dear parents and students,
I hope that you and your families are well and remain in good health during the summer break. This is my final weekly message of the most unusual term of my 32-year teaching career as the Academic Year ends, and the College closes, on Wednesday 15th July at 1pm. I will be sending out a Newsletter at the end of term, which will provide some guidance for our full re-opening in September, although the DfE have yet to issue me with a crystal ball!
Next week Years 7-10 will pursue a remote Enrichment Curriculum with a virtual Sports Day on Monday, the EREBB Mandela Environmental Day on Tuesday and the completion of their Academic Review Day on Wednesday morning. Mr Taylor and his team have devised a series of physical challenges for Monday and our Environmental Day on Tuesday encourages students to volunteer their energies for at least 67 minutes on an environmental-themed project on Tuesday in tribute to Nelson Mandela's 67 years of public service. Engaging young people and environmental causes were close to his heart. Mr McLoughlin has provided your sons with a booklet of possible activities to guide them on Tuesday. Please ensure that your sons complete their Academic Reviews on Wednesday.
Year 12 have had considerable HE support recently, with a virtual HE evening, an Apprenticeship Evening and a personal statement writing seminar and are expected to use their time next week to research their Higher Education options.
Year 9 Report Cards were sent home last week and Year 7 and 8 Reports will be sent home next week, as will final, valedictory, Year 13 Reports.
We will be bringing small groups of Year 10 students on site for catch-up support in their Options subjects during mornings next week. Option A subjects will be taught on Monday, Option B on Tuesday and Option C on Wednesday. Only those boys who have been contacted by the College are eligible to attend, and their attendance is mandatory.
We will update Year 13 and 11 students regarding arrangements for our Results Days on 13th and 20th August when the public health situation has been clarified. Mr Diaz and I will write to you at the end of term.
I wish you and your families an enjoyable weekend. The weather appears to have improved at last!
Yours sincerely,
Simon Duggan
