Headmaster's Message 8th January 2021

Dear Anselmian parents and students,
we have now reached the end of the first week of this unusual half-term when education will be delivered remotely and on-line. I am pleased to report that our boys have made a very good start to the term and are managing well despite the difficult circumstances. Teachers will continue to deliver the curriculum according to the Timetable (Week A) next week from Monday 11th January. Please contact us if your son is having trouble accessing his learning on Microsoft Teams and Show My Homework. Heads of Year will also be holding Year group Assemblies next week.
The Education Secretary has now confirmed that A Level and GCSE Exams are cancelled this summer and will be replaced by some form of Centre/Teacher Assessment as was the case last summer. No further details are available (so please don't ask!) but we will inform you of developments. In the meantime it is essential that Year 11 and 13 students give their studies the attention they deserve and complete all assignments to the best of their ability as this will provide strong evidence of current progress.
The January Year 13 BTEC Exams are proceeding and will be sat at the College. We are committed to providing a safe environment for our students. Attendance is voluntary and students will not be materially disadvantaged by choosing not to take them. Mr Diaz has contacted all BTEC students individually.
I do understand that this situation is not ideal for the delivery of an outstanding education and sympathise with families who have difficulty ensuring an appropriate learning environment for their children. We are dedicated to supporting our students and their families so please contact us in the event of difficulties.
I wish you all an enjoyable weekend, one during which the Catholic Church celebrates the Baptism of Our Lord which unites us as a community in our common baptism.
Yours sincerely,
Simon Duggan
