Headmaster's Message 5th March

Dear Anselmian parents and students,

I am delighted to be able to brief you regarding our return to College next week. As stated in my recent Newsletter the 6th Form have taken their Covid-19 Lateral Flow Tests today and will return to lessons on Monday morning, 8th March, from 8.50am. Year 11 will come into College on Monday and go to lessons period 1 where they will register for their tests which will run throughout the day. The normal timetable will operate throughout the day. Years 9 & 10 will return on Tuesday, 9th March, and Years 7 & 8 on Wednesday 10th March, following the same routine.

The Week B  timetable will be in operation next week and normal standards of appearance and conduct will be expected, although we understand that it is difficult to secure a haircut at present! Students will wear normal shoes and no hoodies or fleeces will be allowed under blazers. Please ensure that your sons satisfy these basic requirements on their return. Boys should return fully equipped for their timetable each day, including Games lessons. The 611 and 612 buses, and public services, will be running as normal. Remote Learning will continue next week until all Year groups return to College by Wednesday, so please check Show My Homework, where most lessons will be posted, and Microsoft Teams, for details. We will continue our routines and protocols which proved so successful last term. We will continue with separate entrances and exits for Key Stages, staggered break and lunchtimes, the 1-way system around the site, good ventilation and the use of hand sanitiser in classrooms and social distancing. The hands, face, space routine is vital to our continued good health. The main change is that students, who already wear them in buildings, will now be required to wear face masks or coverings in lessons, in line with DfE expectations, as is the case in all Wirral secondary schools. The Dining Room will be open for the purchase of food at break and lunchtime.

As explained in my Newsletter the rationale for this phased return is to enable the College to complete the Lateral Flow Testing of students required by the government. These tests are voluntary and require parental consent, or individual consent from 6th Formers. Consent has already been received for the overwhelming majority of students and we strongly recommend that parents provide this in order to break chains of asymptomatic transmission and keep us all safe and the College open! Boys will be tested 3 times, over a period of a fortnight, up until Easter, after which they will use home testing kits. Please do not send your son into College if he is exhibiting any Covid symptoms. He should self-isolate and take a NHS (PCR) Covid test at a designated testing site. The College is not allowed to administer such tests. We have sent you a video to show boys of how to self- administer the test.

I can assure you that the staff are really looking forward to the return of your sons on site and will do their best to support them . We have 3 weeks of term left and we will use this productively, as we prepare for a full term of teaching and learning after Easter. The 6th Form testing has gone very well today which bodes well for next week.

I wish you and your sons a relaxing weekend.
Best wishes,
Simon Duggan
