Headmaster's Message 19th March

Dear Anselmian parents and students,

we now approach the final week of this unusual Easter Term. I am delighted to announce that we have nearly completed our final round of Covid testing of students on site. On Monday Years 7 & 8 will take their final tests. After this students will be expected to continue Lateral Flow Tests twice weekly at home, like staff, including during the Easter holidays. Test kits have been distributed to Forms during the past 2 days. Our students have behaved with impressive maturity and we have had only 1 positive test from nearly 2,500 conducted.

The Year 13 Parents Evening on School Cloud on Thursday proved to be a great success and the Year 11 Parents Evening will be conducted by the same remote method, from 5pm on Wednesday. Subject teachers will be able to give parents and students an indication of current progress but they will not be in a position to discuss Teacher Assessed grades, which have yet to be decided, so please don't ask for them! We await guidance from the DFE regarding how both A level and GCSE grades will be awarded but this will not be published until the end of the month. We have drafted provisional Mock Exam timetables for Years 13 & 11 for next half-term which will be forwarded to you next week, along with Revision Lists to help guide students during the Easter holidays.

Congratulations to our Year 13 BTEC PE students who achieved impressive grades in their January exams. We have provisionally scheduled the Year 12 Parents Evening for April 22nd, also on School Cloud.

On a sad note we learned this week of the death of our former Head of Art Mr. Jim Hackett, aged 96. Jim was much loved and highly respected and even taught me Art, which was probably one of his more challenging tasks!

Next week we will be contemplating the approach of Holy Week and Key Stage 3 classes will have mini Retreats during RE lessons as we prepare to observe the holiest time of the Christian calendar. We will also be pursuing charitable fundraising through Non Uniform Days. Please ensure that your son is not wearing shorts or jewellery!

I wish you and your families an enjoyable Spring weekend and victory for England!

Yours sincerely,

Simon Duggan
