St. Anselm’s College has a rich tradition in Athletics, regularly competing in the English Schools Cup to a National level at both Key Stage 3 & 4. We also have many students selected to compete at County level and who obtain qualifying standards at a National level. Past athletes have included Ikem Billy who represented Great Britain in the 800m and Graeme Matthews won the Triple Jump Gold Medal at the Junior Commonwealth Games in 2005. Recent success has seen Joe Wigfield win 3 gold medals at the European Catholic Games in Italy and Tom Spence win a Gold, Silver and Bronze. Joe was overall team Captain, a great honour and privilege for him and the College. All boys are introduced to Athletics events during their PE lessons and the opportunity to train and develop talents further is presented through Games lessons and in extra-curricular clubs held every day during the summer season. The College has good facilities including a throwing cage and indoor pole vault.  St. Anselm’s also has strong ties with Wirral Athletics Club where students are given further opportunities to train alongside very experienced coaches at The Oval athletics centre. In 2016 the Boys U15 and U13 teams won the North West round of the English Schools Cup. In the final in Bedford they came 9th and 12th Nationally respectively.
